Considering the prime location and the size of the restaurant and diversity of clients they hardly have any vegan options (no desserts at all except sorbet) and their food and drinks overall are average. Nothing special. No WiFi nor any phone charging options. Toilets need to be updated and checked on more regularly. No soap, no towels. Extremely unhygienic and irresponsible considering we are in the mids of a pandemic. Our experience with their staff was very pleasant. But are my friend and me the only ones finding it very concerning and strange that the waiters that wear chic uniforms and hold conversation with you and get your tips at the end of the day are mostly white and the waiters who bring you your food (and clean the bathrooms) hardly dare to look at you, let alone speak, hush through the restaurant as if they had something to be ashamed of, they get put into different hardly notably uniforms and are all black? Reading all these other ratings this doesn‘t sit right and we will for sure not come back to any Alex again. Maybe treat ALL your staff better and pick by different criteria. I‘m sure this reflects on how they treat your customers.

I was at the caffe today evening, and "Alex" Caffè, has a new rule, which is forbiding people to come inside, if they have a sport clothes on. I was waiting for my friend to come in and he wasn't allowed to come in cause he had sport clothes on. I can understand this. But this rule doesn't apply to everyone as I saw today! The PR guy let other people and other groups coming in, which they were with sport clothes on, and he didn't let my friend coming in because of Sport clothes?! I think this was so unfair from his side, beside that, the guy was so unrespectful when I told him this. Thank you.

Nice place to stay for a great cocktail with a view on the river Alster. I had the Asian Tea time which was delicious and the nachos which have cream cheese and cheese sauce on top

Scrambled egg out of the box (literally), tasteless salad, bun is like chewing gum.

Beautiful scenery, of course. If you make a reservation in advance you'll be seated right in front of the large panorama windows facing the Alster and the fountain. The service is incredibly fast, even when it's packed full of people, and friendly, however, not 100% acurate. We've been given a wrong dish and one side we hadn't ordered. Though this was removed off the bill fast, it still dims the impression of the waiters. The food is not bad, but nothing spectacular. Here you definitely pay for the view and not the quality or quantity. To be fair, prices are in low to medium range, so its not a huge waste, but still: I'd come again to have a drink with a nice view, but definitely not for dinner.

A good restaurant to have the good view of Jungfernstieg. And there are lots of selectives, all kinds of sausages, cheese and breads.

staffs here are very busy so you need to make your mind to order. foods are just okay, cocktails are very well made and generous. Overall, this place is great because it has the great view and located in the best spot of alster.

The restaurant is very big, a lot of places to sit, the waiting is a little bit too much.

Good place for brunch or breakfast with good view of river. Price is ok and food is good too. We were a big group and we liked the breakfast buffet. They are also open for lunch and dinner. This place is always very busy. So it is preferred to book table beforehand.easily accessible by public transport( next to U1 stop)

The menu is online have your phone ready,be early on a weekend for a waterfront view.Also the food was relatively ok.The staff seemed overwelhmed though ,it took age to order,get the food and also get the bill.They were friendly though

Shocking! This is a tourist trap, would not recommend going here. Yes, the location is great and the staff was actually really friendly - but that's about it. The food did not taste fresh and was by no means enjoyable: dry chicken, frozen baked potatoes from the supermarket, tasteless sauce. Nothing I would want to pay this much money for. Might be alright for drinks, I did not try any. But definitely stay clear of the food.

Great location, decent, but not great food with a menu ranging from local to international. Service largely cheerful, not 100% up to scratch. We needed to insist a bit to have our table and seats cleaned correctly. Overall not bad, but not remarkable, except for the views.

Good beer and food, inside or outside seats and some places with a view to the lake. During my time in Hamburg use to go there, as it is a late closing place.

A terrible terrible restaurant. You can get better service at a Döner shop at a sketchy alleyway. I got to the restaurant and asked very nicely for a seat near the water, without checking they said they dont have one, so i said to just do the best they can... one of the waiters came up to me and placed me in the smoker area near the road far away from the water. I ordered my fries and drink which was the only thing good about the restaurant. I saw that people are able to sit inside so i asked if i can go in. I payed the waiter and said i can just sit inside wherever, I was expecting him to take my drink and fries inside but nope. Just walked right ahead. So i carried my bag, fries, and drink to a seat inside. As i sat near the windows with the water view i noticed that there were alot of free seats outside, is there a bias as to who gets to sit near the water? I dont see any reserved tables marked. I called a waiter to order a burger and i asked once more, very nicely if i can sit outside, he went to a colleague of his and went back to me saying “you can sit anywhere outside” with an angry tone. So i did, i sat in a two seater table because i was also expecting a friend, but got kicked out by a couple so i decided to sit in a 4 person table because i saw another person alone sitting in one. As I waited for my burger, a waiter came to me and asked “Why are you here!?” And “Who sat you here?”. So I replied calmly even though i was tired of this already, “a colleague told me i can sit anywhere”. So he said “okay” and asked me if i already payed for my food. So I showed him my receipt and he left. Its been 40 min since I ordered my burger and i just saw the waiters looking at me from a far. I didnt mind it. And the waiter from the inside and outside came to me and talked about me infront of me loudly saying “i did not get any order from him!” and left. The waiter from outside asked me if i still wanted to get the burger but it has been an hour since i ordered my burger. I declined nicely and said “I’m not hungry anymore”. So i finished whats left of my fries and drink and left. If this is how this restaurant treats its guests and paying customers then you seriously need to reconsider how the staff are taught. If possible i would give this place 0 stars, but i compliment the chef for the good fries. If you ever want to try this place out then expect bad to terrible attitude from the waiters. I do not recommend going to this place AT ALL if you’re expecting a FUN and PLEASANT experience. Dear ALEX Hamburg, please reconsider on how you treat your customers because this is DEFINITELY NOT how a restaurant should treat tourist or people in general. AWFUL AND DISAPPOINTED.

It's one of the most coveted locations in Hamburg, the only issue being the service and fact that there is just way too much syrup in the cocktail drinks. Expect a delay of at least 25-30 minutes before the waiting staff even looks your way again.

Very overestimated place, yeah it's central, and the view might be nice, but the quality of the food and drinks is quite low.

I went there with friends, i must say very friendly and guiding waitresses, they ensured we enjoyed food and we simply love it. The breakfast buffet was great and the coffee and cake was yummmm. It is a bit pricy but for such nice service and view, where one can relax and enjoy food, i would say it is worth it. Update: Went again with my friend for dinner, i must say that the waiters are a big plus, very caring and guiding, their professional and most importantly friendly gesture made us feel welcome. Good spot to spend time good for business meetings and for monthly specials offers like family my friends

Very comfy and really great food. This is a good place to just have a drink and chill. And thanks to outdoor heaters this is also very comfy when the weather is not so great.

Alex is always a good idea! When the sun shines and temperatures are high you can enjoy drinks and food at the terrace. Location is perfect and staff is very friendly. They can speak English other than Deutsch. This time we went for breakfast 🍳 Food was delicious and with a considerable amount. Due to the high number of people it took more than usual for the breakfast to be ready. We used this time to enjoy a hot tea ☕️ This was the vital breakfast (don’t remember the exact name) and costed around 11 euro. The girl that attended us, Victoria, was very helpful. 10 stars for her service ⭐️

Arrived at restaurant seated promptly however after that service very poor took them over 30 minutes to take our food order and that was after we approached the waiter to ask to take our order. Once they realised we were English speaking we felt isolated and ignored. People who were seated well after us had food and drinks whilst we sat with nothing. Then we were told breakfast was no longer available even though we had arrived within time. In addition no English menu when I asked her if there was one we were told no and the waiter walked off, not offering any help in translation of the German menu. Staff really unfriendly dumped food on table and left never checked on the table once. Overall poor and really unsatisfied.

Good place to eat and drink in Hamburg

You have to use your own phone and internet to view the food menu.... On a website... And you turn the pages by clicking the corner of the menu frame.... Which is too small even on my galaxy note phone... The waitress came too early to take order, I had to refuse her and then she doesn't come for the next 10 minutes. The service of this restaurant is a joke. Don't expect nice service here, you won't get any
